Australia will not meet 2032 renewable energy target: new report

Australian regions risks potential blackouts and gas shortages as early as next year as renewable energy sources struggle to fill shortfalls in supply, a new report has warned.

Released this week by the Victorian Auditor General, the „Managing the Transition to Renewable Energy” study has found the state’s energy transition has not been „adequately considered” and faces an electricity sump due to key transmission projects being delayed.

The report also highlights regulatory failures and hindered policymaking for sharpening the risk of a „disorderly” energy transition.

„A disorderly transition to renewable energy could result in job losses, supply disruptions, price volatility for households and businesses and community resentment,” it stated.
