Germans install fewer solar panels on homes in 2025
The number of solar systems installed in Germany’s single-family home segment has decreased by about 28% in 2025 so far compared with the same period of 2024, signalling declining demand, the German Solar Association (BSW-Solar) said on Monday.
Currently, there are 4.1 million solar systems on homes in Germany compared with 1.7 million facilities in early 2020. This represents about a 2.5 times increase, BSW-Solar said, citing data from Germany’s Federal Network Agency.
According to a BSW-Solar survey, 8 out of 10 new rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems in the residential segment are installed in combination with a battery storage unit. In addition, 4 out of 10 solar facilities are combined with a heat pump or an electric vehicle.
