Greece’s Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN) approved significant new funding for waste and urban wastewater projects in late 2025, strengthening key infrastructure in areas with environmental and tourism importance.

Under the approvals, 4 million euros will support the expansion of the Chalkida sanitary landfill (HYTA), ensuring adequate capacity until the completion of a new Recovery and Recycling Unit. A further 5.8 million euros is being allocated to upgrade the wastewater treatment facility serving Argos and Nafplio, aiming to protect a historic and highly visited destination.
