Net Hero Podcast – Concrete that stores carbon?

On this week’s Net Hero Podcast, we meet Ana Luisa Vaz from Paebbl, the company tackling one of the dirtiest climate culprits—concrete.

Cement accounts for around 8% of global emissions. “It doesn’t make sense to keep building our cities with the biggest polluter in the room,” says Ana Luisa.

Paebbl’s solution? Capture CO₂ from air, sea or industry, then lock it into materials that can replace up to 70% of traditional cement binders.

She explains: “We turn carbon dioxide into solid carbonates that can be used in concrete. The result is a product that avoids emissions and actively removes carbon from the atmosphere.”

It’s a process called CO₂ mineralisation—and Paebbl is doing it at scale.

Their demo plant, the first of its kind to operate continuously, is running 24/7. Built in under 18 months, it proves the technology is not only real but ready. “We’re not a carbon offset scheme, we’re carbon tech. We’re here to scale—and fast,” Ana Luisa says.
