Net zero is unstoppable say ELCC experts
Despite political flip-flopping and public scepticism, energy professionals at last week’s Energy Live Consultancy Conference say the net zero transition is not only alive but inevitable.
They all agreed it’s being driven by commercial demand, not government slogans.
During a no-nonsense debate, panellists laid bare the shift they’re seeing.
Paul O’Connor of ENGIE said bluntly: “It isn’t necessarily what the government is doing… we actually think it’s the consumer demand.”
He explained that more companies are realising the commercial upsides of going green – from accessing cheaper finance to meeting supplier criteria – and are embedding sustainability into long-term strategy.
Scott Marasco of SSE Energy Solutions agreed, pointing to new corporate reporting rules forcing companies to take sustainability reporting seriously: “Customers are thinking about their buying decisons about how they manage their supply chains too.”
Paul Botwell of Ecotricity said the trend was now unstoppable.
