“Vyaspur SDM Jaspal Singh Gill and HSPCB Mines and Geology Department officials recently inspected eight screening plants, of which five screening plants were found to be non-compliant with environmental guidelines,” said Singh, adding that the owners of the plants had been directed to respond within 15 days.

“If they fail to meet environmental norms within 15 days, strict legal action will be taken against them and they will be sealed,” he said.

Additionally, he stated that Deputy Commissioner Preeti and Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal had formulated a plan to curb illegal mining in the district. Earlier, the DC had said that officers from other departments, in addition to the Mining Department, had been deployed at 17 checkpoints set up to monitor transportation of illegal mining minerals, and surprise inspections were being conducted at mining sites.
