Sweden imported nearly three million tonnes of other countries’ garbage in a single year — and got paid to take it, at roughly 373 krona a tonne, because burning it produces heat for over a million homes
Every morning, lorries stacked with other people’s rubbish grind across the Norwegian border into Sweden, and ships carrying baled British household waste tie up at Swedish docks. None of it is being purchased. Sweden is charging for the privilege of taking it away.
